I want to be an english teacher
I want to get paid to read pretentious-sounding novels and overanalyze the color of the main character's hat and I want to read poetry and share it with my students and listen to them when they interpret things in ways I never thought of before
like I'm completely serious about this. Maybe. Like I've spent my whole life determined to get to med school and preparing myself for it and I fell in love with genetics and cellular biology and I was like "yeah man I'm gonna be a doctor, I'm gonna help people"
and then today I was like "wow I really want to be a high school english teacher" and it was just a really random thought that I've literally never come across, but it just sounds so appealing all of a sudden.
BUT I ALSO STILL WANT TO BE A DOCTOR?????? Like that's honestly something I don't think I'll ever be able to let go and just the prospect of helping people is motivating enough and I still want to study biology and??? Why can't I just be a doctor who teaches classic literature as a side job uugh life isn't fair :c

I used to want to be an english teacher but I'm really no good at trying to be in control of groups Like teenagers scare the crap out of me And I am one so
Or middle schoolers
I just I don't like being responsible for the outcome of a kid lolol Like if i were to mess up, it'd mess them up I have had some fun teachers that taught me absolutely nothing And because of that I struggle with some things It's their fault But it's also my own bc I was too afraid to ask questions But it's their job to make me feel comfortable enough to ask questions And I never did I always felt like they played favorites And i always felt like a loser and stupid Teachers should make you feel like you're smart That you're doing great
i want tests i want study guides i don't want you to give me answers i want you to show me how to get those answers don't dumb it down bc people don't like work
ughdjk
I wish school wasn't so expensive And that you could just do both y'know somehow
heheh

I'd want to teach english the way my math teacher teaches math, like urging students to find the answers themselves without letting them get too far away. Like my math teacher is the literal embodiment of everything a teacher should be. She designs tests in a way that doesn't really hurt people if they happen to have a bad day, and she's always willing to answer questions and she does so without making me feel dumb, and I actually feel like I learn from her. But then she's also really fun and actually kind of really, really weird, but she always incorporates really cheesy but oddly competitive games into her lessons and everyone just really loves her, to the point where they all want her to write college recommendations instead of the english teachers omg
like that's what I want. I want a classroom environment that doesn't stress kids out with an abundance of homework or tests that may determine the fate of their final grade. I'm a huge fan of extra credit and discussion groups, large and small. Seminars were always my favorite part of lit class tbh even though all my friends kind of hated them.

Fun fact: My 11th grade english teacher was a neurosurgeon before. When she got older she realized she wanted a job that felt more relaxed.

Fun fact: My 11th grade english teacher was a neurosurgeon before. When she got older she realized she wanted a job that felt more relaxed. my math teacher just recently got a p.hd in neuropsychology or something like that and started teaching as a professor in the evenings because she decided she didn't have enough jobs wtf but yeah idk I'd hate say I want to become an english teacher just because it's more 'relaxed' but idk tbh that is kind of part of it. Looking at that schedule for bioengineering + premed for GMU really overwhelmed me and I know doing straight bio + premed would most likely be less stressful, but then you have med school and I've always told myself I'd be willing to go to school for like eight+ extra years but now I'm just kind of like really????

of course then there's the issue of my mom being an english teacher, and she kind of hated her job and would definitely not recommend it to me, and she probably won't approve. But idk my experience with english teachers has actually been phenomenal, like I've been lucky to always have english teachers who know what they're talking about and look like they love their job and wow it just sounds really fun
like can you imagine getting paid to teach people about books??? BOOKS man. Novels of literary merit. im cry

You do want you want man. If you wanna go through all the training and stuff for doctors, go for it. If you wanna be a teacher because it's more relaxing, awesome. In the end, all that matters is if you're happy or not.
