Feel free to add your own(and comment on others).
Someone made a post talking about Jared Leto's acceptance speech at the Oscars lacking the mention of trans people, and someone else quoted something that he said that was all inclusive and not directed right towards trans people. I went to the OPs blog, and one ask really bugged me. Particularly one part of the ask. "Coming from a CIS person, *I* understand what you meant and agree with you!" Okay yeah but see you are cis. While your opinions are not altogether invalid, they are irrelevant to the situation because you do not get to speak on behalf of the trans community. The way it was worded was like, "I am cis so my opinion is more important."

While your opinions are not altogether invalid, they are irrelevant to the situation because you do not get to speak on behalf of the trans community. The way it was worded was like, "I am cis so my opinion is more important." he dedicated his oscar to "those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love" so no, he never directly mentioned trans people but it was definitely implied. He dedicated his oscar to those who died of HIV/AIDS which I feel was really the point of dallas buyer's club. Like, yes it had a trans character and yes said trans character was important to the plot, and yes part of the point of the movie was to teach the main character how to accept others including trans persons, but the movie was not about the trans community in itself, it was about the battle with HIV/AIDS and the technicalities regarding the FDA and other drug organizations. So I was actually really happy with jared's speech because he technically wasn't obligated to mention anything at all, and by saying "injustice because of who you are" instead of directly stating 'trans people' he's able to include all non-cis genders without taking the time to list all of them, because let's face it, if he started listing genders there's a huge possibility that he'd miss one and people would get angry over that too. This was the safe route for him, in the sense that he could acknowledge people who aren't cishet without having to fear excluding one gender/sexuality.

I think that's along the lines of what the reply to the OP on the post said. I haven't seen the movie either, but I do agree that'd be the safest route to go.

jared leto's speech was okay in my opinion (but i am cis so i'm not as aware of things). he definitely could do better. i'm just pissed that a known rapist was able to get an acting job and win an oscar for it. fuck you jared leto.
