Personally, I get really stressed out fairly easily. When I'm stressed, I begin to have very negative thoughts and relapse into a lot of really bad habits. Sometimes I forget to just sit down and breathe, or use my tried-and-true methods of calming myself down. It's easy to forget the things that make you happy when there's so much going on.
This thread is a reminder of everything that makes you relaxed, as well as tips from other members on what you can do.
Just post your own personal ways you destress and get away.
1. Cleaning and organizing. When everything around me is a mess, or I have a lot of things to do, my mind feels really cluttered and I start to feel overwhelmed. What I like to do is make a highly detailed list of things I need to do. They can seem very mundane, but what makes me happy is doing a few things, and being able to cross 5 things off my list. I feel productive and it motivates me to keep going. When I'm done, I love seeing the completely crossed off list, and looking around my room and seeing cleaned, organized space. It makes it easier to organize everything else in my life.
2. Personal Pampering. When I'm stressed, I tend to look my worst and that just adds onto the problems. I become very self conscious and I feel so bad I don't even want to get out of my pajamas. This leaves me feeling tired and lazy all day, and nothing gets done and it just sort of spirals down into chaos. Even when I'm feeling tired, I have to remind myself that if I treat myself good, I'll feel good. On these days, I like to start off with one of two things. If I've washed my hair in the last 24 hours, I like to take a hot bubble bath with epsom salt. Epsom salt is a muscle relaxer and makes your body feel pleasantly numb. Like there's no pressure or pain anywhere, just comfortable bliss. While I'm soaking in the bath, I like to multitask by working on my eyebrows, applying a face mask, and shaving my legs. When I get out, I not only feel relaxed but accomplished, because I didn't waste any time. If I haven't washed my hair in the last 24 hours, I'll take a really steamy shower and let the hot water beat on my shoulder blades and neck, where a lot of tension builds up when I'm stressed. The heat relaxes the muscles and makes me feel calmer. While showering, I'll make sure to use my favorite scented soaps and conditioners so that it fills up the room with sweet aromas, and leaves me feeling very pampered and pretty afterwards. When I'm done with either thing, I take the time to use my good face wash and moisturizer, do a sugar scrub on my lips to get rid of dead skin(1/4 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of sugar, mix and dip a toothbrush in it, swirl it around, then scrub your lips with it). I'll put on my favorite or comfiest clothes and even if all my problems haven't disappeared, at least I was able to take off a layer of them.
