as a swim instructor i probably shouldn't have favorites but man
this one little boy is only like 3? and he's tiny and he's in my preschool class and he is adORAbLesometimes I want to cry when I see him in the morning
anyways
we do this thing where we have them swim through this hoop thing and they pretend they are circus animals jumping through like the ring of fire or whatever
and i always give them some time to think about what animal they want to be when they do it
the girl says "i wanna be a unicorn." typical answer.
the other boy says "i'm a lion!!!!! RAWR!!" also typical answer.
THIS CHILD TELLS ME THAT HE IS GOING TO BE A GIANT FROGGY and proceeds to hop from the top step of the pool to the bottom and hop through the hoop, complete WITH SOUND EFFECTS
I had to remind myself to refrain from laughing, it was hard
(also, last session, a different kid told me he wanted to be a walrus and flopped and broke the hoop)
and today! I was helping the other boy kick on his back, and the tiny boy walks down the steps right onto the bottom of the pool and his entire body is underwater and he is still trying to walk and i almost panicked
so i pulled him up and he coughed a little, and then he gave me the BIGGEST SMILE AND turned around and yelled to his mom that MOMMY! I SWAM! UNDERWATER! WALKING SWIMMING! WATCH!
and she didn't know if she should laugh or be more concerned for his safety (same tbh) and we had to explain to him that that was not swimming and not safe, this poor kid
this concludes ali's adventures with children in water for the day
