okay so you know how I switched from a BS to a BA in bio by recommendation of my pre-med adviser?
WELL someone on the facebook group was also asking which would be better if you're doing pre-med
and this kid comments "BS is better. Bachelor of SCIENCE. I guess I don't share your suffering since I decided to major in biochemistry instead since biology is useless and medical schools are tired of seeing carbon copies."
like WOW what kind of pretentious attitude is that??? BAs in bio are practically created for those going into med school because it's completely unnecessary to go through the more rigorous BS course while also trying to complete rigorous med school prerequisites. Kids with a BA in bio on a pre-med track are working JUST as hard as kids with a plain BS, they don't need to put unnecessary strain on themselves by shooting for both because in the end, med schools don't necessarily care if you've got a BA or a BS. Having a BS doesn't make you better than anyone and jfc it doesn't even mean you're doing less science. Biology is a freaking science whether you're getting a BA or a BS.
and don't even talk about biology being useless, don't you dare put people down like that. I'm majoring in bio because I love bio and to me that seems like the easiest thing to major in if I'm doing pre-med. Now, I personally know it's kind of impractical to major in a straight core science because I've lived with my dad who went to college for fourteen years to get a p.hd in physics that nobody wants, but I'd never tell somebody their degree is useless. That's so rude. Besides, you don't know other people. Personally, if I decide to quit pre-med, I'm planning on switching into bioengineering for a more practical degree or heck even jumping the shark and trying to become an english teacher, who knows. The point is that majoring in biochem doesn't make you special to med schools, especially if that's all you've got going for you. Besides, I'm pretty confident in my ability to get into med school regardless of my freaking major, especially since my school is the number two school to send the most students to med school, right behind freaking harvard. So don't talk about what med schools want to see. Bio majors aren't all carbon copies, especially if they have concentrations, and maybe you should leave the harsh advising to the actual advisers. Good god.
