how do you guys feel about this
because I'm guilty of dog earring all my books and destroying everything. I write all over everything, I underline important phrases and I dog ear those pages, which is kind of why I tend to shy away from electronic reading. Like I don't even use dog ears as ways to mark where I left off, I use actual pieces of paper for that, but usually I'll want to go back to my favorite lines, and I've tried using a lot of pieces of paper back when I was a snob about the condition of my books, but I literally used so much paper and I would transport my books everywhere and the paper would get lost and I'd lose my important passage and I'd get sad. And I tried post-its for a while, but I ran out of post-its and I don't like paying for things and it's tough to reuse them because they lose their stickiness, so dog earring is a lot more efficient for me
but I know my dad hates that, he's the kind of person who tries to preserve the original integrity of all his books. Which works for him because he only ever reads at home, so he can keep a million bookmarks without having to worry about them falling off, but I have to put books in my backpack and carry them around and it's basically impossible for me to keep this pristine. So I've become a big fan of 'worn books mean you love them' but idk, I know I have friends who shudder at the thought of dog earring and annotating
