we have to read 'a sense of an ending' for lit
I can't do it. SPOILERS but there's a lot of suicide and this one kid cuts himself in the bathtub until he bleeds to death and it's so freaking triggering
and I almost feel bad because it's such a well written book in terms of syntax and existential concepts, like the characters make really good points, but the content itself is just horrible for me
I'm not about book banning, I'm really not, I think it really cripples students, and I get the literary merit in this. But books like these should at least come with a warning because I was not prepared for this, and they should give an alternative, because it's scary enough that even people who don't self harm could get really uneasy and deter them from wanting to conduct thorough analysis because they're not going to want to go through the book and reread those passages.
