like at first it was just really cheesy and just downright weird because it's like, I know these characters, and it's just really strange seeing them in cartoon form
but now that I really think about it, it's actually one of the most accurate adaptations. I mean besides a few obligatory anime tropes, it's actually pretty true to the book, and the best part is because it's like fifty episodes long, they can put a lot more into it, so it's the first adaptation I've seen that deals with my absolute favorite scene in the book where valjean literally gets buried alive
AND HOLY FRICk these are probably the most accurate portrayals of the characters too. Like most of them even LOOK the way I imagine them to look, which is great because I don't really get that in too many adaptations. And because it's longer they have a lot more time to develop all my favorite secondary characters in ways that are pretty much 100% true to the book
