I've found the best way to go about it is to just address them by name(including when you talk about them to others) and when it's appropriate ask them what pronouns they prefer. There are some that don't identify as either boy or girl. ^^

I just don't want to offer. As some people identify as male/female but not boy/girl don't they? Or the other way around?

Not quite. Some people don't identify as either. They may not choose a gender, or choose one that does not fall into the male/female category. ^^ The best and really only way to approach it is to just say to them, "I don't want to offend or misgender you. May I ask what pronouns you prefer?" For example, Cam does not use pronouns at all. Cam just wants to be addressed as Cam, so if I am talking about Cam I wouldn't say, "He/her/she/him did this" I'd say "Cam did this." There are also Xe and Ze pronouns that, according to Cam, are gender neutral pronouns. However, if you refer to someone as this instead of asking for their pronouns, you may offend them by assuming they are gender neutral when they prefer male pronouns. ^^
